Don: That's an interesting concept, but it seems unlikely that you could merge that into a traditional RTS game. So you would be looking at more of a programming game like the various games based on the "C Robots" theme (see the above URLs). There is also a gnurobots package in Debian if you like programming in Scheme.

Mark: One of the jobs of a DD is to manage reports that need to be sent upstream and make sure that they don't get lost.

John,

I agree with everything you said, right up until the point you filed the bug in the Debian BTS.

Could I suggest that upstream are far better placed to implement your suggestion, rather than the Debian Qt/KDE team.

I have forwarded your report upstream [1].

Mark

Another good intro would be a real-time strategy game that exposes the logic that drives the player's units. Players could start off with simple units that just follow orders, then click on a unit, view the code, and add code for actions such as "if there's a nearby friendly unit under attack, help it, otherwise look for a broken structure to repair, otherwise find the closest unexplored space, visit it, and return." Capture an enemy unit alive and you get a copy of its code, or send code to your allies.
